Method of coating particles by vapor deposition
Patent Abstract
A new fluidized bed particle coating method is disclosed by the use of which coatings can be uniformly and conveniently deposited on the surfaces of fluidized particulate materials by vapor deposition processes at temperatures lower than those of the heated coating precursor transport lines. By this method, particle materials with relatively low surface temperatures may be brought into close proximity with a coating precursor containing gas stream characterized by a substantially higher gas volume temperature in such a way that the vaporized precursor molecules are caused to adsorb or condense on the relatively cold particle surfaces without also condensing on any other surface. Further, if the adsorbed precursor molecules are capable of reacting or polymerizing on the relatively cold particle surfaces, thus forming substantially continuous coatings on those surfaces, they may do so without also depositing such coatings on any other surfaces. Such coating deposition processes cannot be carried out using conventional fluidized bed deposition methods or equipment.

Low temperature die attaching material for BOC packages
Patent Abstract
An apparatus and method is provided for forming a board-on-chip (BOC) package. An adhesive material including a carrier and microcapsules distributed in the carrier is used to bond a semiconductor component to a mounting surface in a BOC package. The microcapsules contain a hardener and/or a catalyst that, when combined with the carrier, initiate a bonding reaction. The contents of the microcapsules are released via application of an external influence, such as pressure or heat, when the bonding reaction is desired to begin. The use of microcapsules permits the formulation of adhesive blends with a substantially increased pot life, increased stability and reliability at high temperatures, and favorable low temperature reaction and bonding characteristics.

Preformed solder parts coated with parylene in a thickness effective to exhibit predetermined interference colors
Patent Abstract
The invention provides a solder preform coated with a predetermined thickness of parylene which physically and chemically protects the preform, as well as a provides a unique optical interference coating which reflects at characteristic frequencies. When predetermined thicknesses of parylene are selected, the parylene coating provides an interference coating which causes the solder preforms to appear green, or gold, or blue in color. The parylene coating, which is otherwise colorless and transparent thus enables solder preforms to be visually distinguishable by alloy type (or customer) by the use of colors, or blends of colors. The invention further provides an effective method of visually verifying the reflow status of a solder preform during manufacturing by examining the color of the solder preform after heating. The interference colors provided by the parylene coating do not persist through the reflow process, and thus, the change in color of the solder preform after reflow can be used as an effective visual check to determine if the preform has been heated sufficiently.

Coating Material
Patent Abstract
The method of making a macroemulsion composition for controlling odors and including droplets of water-immiscible, odor counteracting material dispersed as the discontinuous phase of the macroemulsion in a water soluble binder, which constitutes the continuous phase of the macroemulsion. Upon deposition of the composition onto an appropriate substrate, such as pet litter, and after evaporation of the water within the binder solution, the water soluble binder solidifies on the substrate. In so doing, the solidified water soluble binder substantially encloses the droplets of the odor counteracting material. The water soluble binder easily dissolves upon contact with water in pet excreta, thereby releasing the odor counteracting material in an amount appropriate to counteract the offensive odors at the offensive area where such counteraction is needed most.

Encapsulated oxidation-resistant iron-neodymium-boron permanent magnet particles
Patent Abstract
Oxidation-resistant, individually encapsulated neodymium-iron-boron permanent magnet particles are provided. The particles are individually coated with, preferably, three distinct organic layers and are useful for the subsequent formation of a molded permanent magnet article. The first coating is an antioxidant layer employed for the retardation of oxidation of the coated particle. The second intermediate layer consists of an appropriate thermosetting epoxy to provide the adhesion required during subsequent molding of the particles. The third and outermost layer consists of polystyrene and is employed to keep the particles free flowing, since the epoxy layer may be tacky after deposition, thereby hindering the free flowability of the particles. The coatings are applied sequentially using fluidized bed coating techniques. The encapsulated particles can then be molded and appropriately cured. In addition, the encapsulated particles exhibit enhanced oxidation resistance, including at elevated temperatures.

Cast material with encapsulated lubricant
Patent Abstract
A slippery orthopedic cast tape produced by depositing onto a substrate a layer of microencapsulated lubricating or friction-reducing material. The substrate is impregnated with a material which is hardenable upon exposure to an activating agent. The coating of each one of the microgranules is formed of a material which is removable upon the application thereto of a removing stimulus. Method and apparatus for microencapsulation
Patent Abstract
A method and apparatus for microencapsulating an electroluminescent phosphor with an extremely thin coating. The process involves vaporizing a poly-para-xylylene, pyrolyzing the resulting vapors to form reactive monomeric radicals, and then passing such vaporous radicals to a vacuum deposition zone where they contact tumbling particles of an electroluminescent phosphor under vacuum conditions. As the particles are being coated, they are sifted by means of a screen. The reactive monomeric radicals deposit on the tumbling particles, are adsorbed by the particles, and polymerized into a very thin coating on the surfaces of the particles.
